There’s something special about the women’s football scene in London. Clubs like Boiler Room Ladies FC and Hackney Laces (featured in Issue 1 of Thin White Line) mix the game with music, arts and community.

Boiler Room Ladies FC has announced it’s hosting a new football tournament – Playing For Kicks, a tournament made for women by women.

The club, an amateur team from Hackney, is organising the tournament to help raise the profile of women’s grassroots football and to encourage women to take part and support.

The event will take place on Saturday 24th September 2016 at Powerleague, Shoreditch. The day kicks off at 11am.

For this tournament Boiler Room Ladies FC has partnered with Women In Sport – a charity working to transform sport for the benefit of every woman and girl. 100% of the tournament’s proceeds will be donated to directly to Women In Sport.

Eight teams will compete in the tournament, including: Boiler Rooms Ladies FC, Football Beyond Borders, Tottenham Hotsnatch, Hackney Wick Ladies, FC Downs Time, Hackney Laces and Wonderkid FC.

There will also be live DJ sets from past and present Boiler Room Ladies FC players – K2RAH (So Future), Rachel (Gaps), Kim & Pia (NTS), Nadia Ksaiba (NTS, Phantasy) and The Deep Throat Choir.

Entry is via donation of a minimum of £2 each, which along with the team fees will be donated to Women In Sport.
